Organizing My Paint Cans Tutorial

I've been trying to organize some things in my basement

and one of the spots is my section where I keep my

leftover paint.  After awhile, the cans have grown to quite the collection and taken up more and more space.  Can anyone relate?  

Every time we paint a room, there is always leftover paint that I don't want to throw away, because I'll need to use it later for touchups.  Which leads to the large amount of cans I have now.



This is how I organized all this into a controllable amount and use of space!

I took out a glass jar for each can of paint I had.  If I had a lot of paint left in a can, I used a quart sized jar and for a lesser amount, I used a pint sized jar.

In my craft box I had a roll of big white stickers that were perfect for what I had in mind.

On each sticker, I wrote the room where the paint was used, the place I bought it, the formula and the date purchased.

Next, I opened up the can of paint I made the sticker for, and poured that paint into a glass jar.  The sticker was applied to the front of the jar and pressed firmly to make it stick well.

Before placing the lid and ring on, I covered the opening with a piece of serran wrap, to make it even easier to get open later, if any moisture were to try and get it and make the lid rusty (since they are stored in the basement).

This is what I ended up with and I'm so happy with it!  Now, it's so easy to find what I want, not only because I can see the color easily and read the label, but it's easy to see how much I have left of it.

The other and bigger bonus, is that the paint section is now MUCH smaller than before!

Thrifty Thursday ~ Bank Documents

Last weekend, we had so much fun

going to a new town and spending time in a few different

thrift shops and antique stores!

This lot is something I found that I grabbed right away!

Two of these sets are from banks, and the third is from a store.

They really made beautiful designs for simple items back then, didn't they?  The half-flower design and the scroll on this are so eye-catching.

I'm glad that someone kept these, after all, they are so old, and most people throw out paper items.

This second bank receipt pad is also really old, and still in wonderful condition!

On this store receipt pad, the graphics are wonderful! I can see this today in a an outdoor hunting shop!

Such a lovely font with wheat peeking out from behind!

This is so crisp and clear, like a mini picture!  There is such detail in the fish and water, you can even see the fishing line the fish is attached to. 

These may be hard to part with!  I wonder what store this pack actually was from.

An Empty Nest and Bird Nest Display Tutorial

Today I went out to check on the baby birds and this is what I found:

No babies.  Just one unhatched egg.

The one egg was tucked down into a little dent inside.

The board I've had up to protect it was knocked down onto the ground, and there was no sign of Gertrude or Myrtle.

So, I took the nest out of the tractor, which can now be moved, and saw just

how wonderfully made it actually is.

 I decided to make something with this and not let Beatrice's work go to waste.

I started out with this old wooden box with leather straps on the back,

that came from an old barn.

I cut a piece of burlap and set that in the box,

then tucked in the nest and Robin's egg.

It fits so nicely there.

Next to that, I added some vintage pages from assorted books

and a vintge Bingo card tied with jute.  An old key was tied onto

this also using a piece of old lace.

It add such a touch of charm!

I love the color of Robin's eggs, don't you?

Tucked in behind the Bingo card bundle, I rolled up some pages from an antique

German Bible, tied it with Robin's egg blue and white striped twine.  Next to that, I added a roll of antique Hymnal pages tied with jute.

I still didn't think it was complete, there was too much space in that bottom right hand corner.

So, I added these:

Some dried out pinecones from the pinetree!  Perfect.

                                      

                                                                  Now, it looks complete.
                                                                 Such a charming display!

Gertrude and Myrtle

These two are growing so fast! 

In just a couple of days, they are much bigger already.   They automatically stetch their necks and open their mouths wide as soon as they hear a sound near their nest.

Unfortunately there is one egg not hatched, and I don't think it will. 

Beatrice lovingly nestles down over it and keeps it warm, it hopes it will, though.

Who knows?  Maybe she knows something I don't.  Hopefully, she does!

Feature Friday ~ Celebration Circle Confetti

I thought it would be fun to share with you

some items from my online store on Fridays.  Not all of you come to my blog from there, and for those of you who don't, this will introduce to you some of the things I make / and or sell.

Today I am featuring some brightly colored circle confetti that I made:

It is made of 2 different sized circles, a 1" circle and a 1 1/2" scalloped circle.

I've included many different pretty patterned papers

combined with different vintage papers!  To make a really unique confetti!

Since this theme is Celebration, it can be used for so many holidays and celebrations!!

I like to use it sprinkled on the table where the cake/cupcakes goes (isn't there always cake/cupcakes at an event?)!  Sometimes I'll use them to make cards, to decorate a scrapbook layout.  Or I'll even sew some of them together to make an awesome (and oh-so easy!) garland!

Hello World

Two of the babies have arrived!

Meet Myrtle on the left

and Gertrude on the right.

Can you see the third egg not hatched yet?  It's so pretty. 

Here is the proud Father, taking his turn at feeding them.  He looks a little tired from the long night.

Beatrice is one very proud Mother, by the way, she flits in and out constantly for juicy worms and then comes back to settle down over the babies so they'll take a nap.  And so she can take a quick one, too.
